Title I

Dear Cypress Village Families,

Cypress Village is identified as a Schoolwide Title I School.  Identified Title I schools are eligible to receive Title I funds if the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch is at least as high as the district average. Title I schools receive additional financial assistance to help ensure that all students meet our challenging Common Core State Standards. As an identified Schoolwide Title I School, Cypress Village has received additional funding to support schoolwide programs and systems of support.

What is a schoolwide program? A schoolwide Title I program can be established in order to improve the overall educational program of the entire school, without having to target a specific group of children as eligible beneficiaries. Although schools are not required to identify “eligible” students, they are required to address the needs of students at risk of not meeting the rigorous academic achievement standards. By implementing a schoolwide program in Irvine schools and at Cypress Village, we will shift our focus from identifying individual students and supports, to looking at the overall needs of a school and how Title I funds can support closing the achievement gap for all students.

Attached to this letter you will find our Cypress Village Parent Notification and our Title I Cypress Village School and Parent Engagement Policy.

If you have any questions regarding Title I at Cypress Village you can contact our Title I Coordinator, Mrs. Rath, JessicaRath@iusd.org; Assistant Principal, Mr. Evan Forster, EvanForster@iusd.org: or Principal, Mrs. Lambert, JenniferLambert@iusd.org.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Lambert

Throughout the school year, we will be providing you with important information about Title I at Cypress Village and how Title I funding supports your child’s education. This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child.

At Cypress Village Elementary, we are very proud of our teachers and feel they are ready for the coming school year, and are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. As a Title I School, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials. We are happy to provide this information to you. At any time you may ask:

  • Whether the teacher has met state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and/or subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction,
  • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived, and
  • Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.

You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA), includes additional right-to- know requests. At any time parents and family members can request:

  • Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out.
  • Information on required assessments that include:
    • subject matter tested,
    • time and format of disseminating results.
    • amount of time it takes students to complete the test, and
    • source of the requirement (if applicable),
    • purpose of the test,

Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals meet applicable California state requirements.

If you have any questions about your child’s assignment to a teacher or paraprofessional, please contact Jennifer Lambert, jenniferlambert@iusd.org or (949) 936-8900.
