Back to School Night
This year’s Back to School Night for grades K - 6th will be held virtually on Thursday, September 2. In order to allow parents with multiple children across grade levels to attend all the presentations and meet the teacher, we have three scheduled times. Your child’s teacher will be sharing a zoom link prior to Back to School NIght.
- Virtual Back to School Night Times:
- Special Ed - AUT Specific Classes @ 5:00PM
- Kindergarten @ 5:00PM
- 4th - 6th @ 5:45 PM
- 1st - 3rd @ 6:30 PM
Drop Off and Dismissal
Cypress Village greatly appreciates your help with the following:
- Dogs are not allowed on campus at any time. This includes dogs being held by someone and really cute puppies.
- No parking in the red curb and drop off areas of our parking lots. These are only for drop off and pick up. Drivers must remain in the car.
- In order to limit potential injuries, students may not wear shoes to school that have an open toe and/or heel to school. This means no flip flops, sandals, crocs, etc.
- Only students in grades 3rd-6th may ride bicycles/scooters/razors to and from school on their own. Helmets are required. Students and adults must walk their bikes, scooters, and razors when on school property during arrival and dismissal. It is strongly recommended that students lock their bike at the bike racks each day.
- Please use crosswalks in our parking lot at all times and when crossing the public streets surrounding our school.
We encourage families to walk to school when possible and utilize the street parking around the school. We are lucky to have many entrance points on our campus. As we did last year, students will be dismissed from their classroom door. Please park in an area that is closest to your child’s classroom. You do not need to drop-off or pick up your child from the front parking lots. In fact, we encourage you to find an area around the school that works for you and your child since the parking lots can become congested during arrival and dismissal. We have opened both parking lots for student drop-off and pick-up.
Morning Arrival:
Please remember that parents and students are only allowed on campus 15 minutes before your child starts school.
- Upper Grade- 8:00am
- Primary- 8:15am
Afternoon Dismissal:
In the afternoon, parents are allowed on campus only at the time of dismissal
- Primary-2:15pm
- Upper Grade- 2:37pm
- Minimum Day-1:20pm
With primary dismissal, please make sure that you are not staying on campus. Our upper graders are still in session and will be using our outdoor learning and physical education areas. You are welcome to visit any one of our awesome nearby city parks in the meantime. CLICK HERE to view a map of where to stand while you are waiting to pick up your student. The nearby parks are circled in blue and our campus boundary lines are in pink.

Hot Weather Guidelines
As you know during the first few months of the school year, it is not uncommon for us to experience hot weather. Occasionally, the temperatures may reach into the 90s or even around 100. In response, Cypress Village adheres to the County of Orange and Orange County Department of Education's Hot Weather Guidelines for Schools to determine student activities on those days. The activity heat index takes into account the temperature and humidity present to make recommendations for rest, activity time, and fluid intake.
Based on those activity heat index guidelines, as recommended, we will suspend physical education, conduct physical education during a time in the day when it is cooler, and have the children remain in their classrooms during snack recess and lunch recess. It is important to note, shade is available to students on our playground and activity time during recess and lunch is generally limited to about 20-25 minutes.
Parents can assist us in helping ensure that their children remain healthy and safe on hot days, by following the suggestions below:
- Have your child wear light weight, comfortable and "breathable" clothing.
- Hydration is vital! Send your child to school with at least one water bottle. They can refill them throughout the day.
- Provide your child a hat to wear when outside.
Instrument Rental Grades 4-6
Is your child starting a new instrument at school this year? Whether you are looking for a string, brass, or woodwind instrument, IPSF’s Instrument Rental office is ready to assist you! Mark your calendar for IPSF’s Instrument Rental Day on Saturday, September 11. Appointments are required for all new rentals and can be made online beginning Tuesday, September 7.
Lunch & Other Items - Drop-Off Location
If your child forgets their lunch or another important item, you may drop them off at the labeled table near the MPR. Please email your child’s teacher when you drop it off. It also helps to share with your child that if they forget their lunch, to check the table. Teachers are not always able to check their email throughout the day. When in doubt, check the table for the forgotten item. Thank you!
Nutritional Services
All IUSD students will receive free meals during the 2021-22 school year, which includes one breakfast (if breakfast is available at your school) and one lunch. Please note that Nutrition Services will continue to charge students full-price for an additional second meal and a la carte items. Visit iusd.org in the News section for more information about student meals and IUSD’s Nutrition Services.
Safety Protocols
Your child’s safety is our top priority. We encourage you to read all IUSD Communications emailed to you in order to receive the most up to date information. The Irvine Unified website also provides the latest news regarding COVID-19, as well as many resources for families.
Daily Home Screening
We would like to take this time to remind families to go through this Daily Symptom Screener with your child before leaving for school every day. It is essential that a parent calls the attendance line at 949-936-8901 to notify the school that the student is staying home due to illness or has been in contact with a Covid positive person. We appreciate your support in keeping our students and families healthy.
School Communication - Follow Us on Instagram and Facebook
Every Friday you will receive this email, which we call the “Cypress Village Forecast.” It is also recommended that you follow our Cypress Village Elementary’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. In order for us to effectively communicate with you, it is imperative that we have an accurate email address on file. Changes in your email can be made through the Parent Portal located at www.myiusd.org or by contacting the front office.
