Virtual Parent Conference Week, October 5th - October 9th
Cypress Village teachers will be holding virtual parent/teacher conferences from Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9. On Wednesday, October 7, conferences will be held all day and therefore there will be no school for students in K-6th grade. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are all minimum days with 1st–6th grade students in the traditional model being dismissed at 1:30. Kindergarten students will remain on their regular schedule during these dates.
Instructional Assistant Needed
We are looking for credentialed candidates (or someone who is either in a teaching credential program or about to begin their program in the spring) for an open instructional assistant position. If you know of anyone, have them apply on EdJoin and then email Maureen immediately to set up an interview. MaureenGeorge@iusd.org
Walk to School Challenge - Starting October 5th
Cypress Village’s Walk to School Challenge will start on October 5th! This will be a year long program where each month, the classroom with the highest percentage of walkers will earn an outdoor popsicle party with Mrs. Lambert and Mr. Forster. One winner will be determined from the kindergarten classes, primary classes, and the upper grade classes. Live farther away? No problem. Have your parent drop you off at one of the two adjacent parks and walk to school with a buddy. It is a great way to wake up your body and start the day fresh and alert! More information to come!
Mask Requirement Updates
Please visit this link for the updated face covering guidance for IUSD schools, based on the information we received from OCDE last Friday. Please note that IUSD’s face covering policy has always been and remains more stringent than the state’s. In July, the Board voted to require face coverings on IUSD campuses and in classrooms for all staff, students and visitors, except for those with exemptions per state guidelines. This updated content on our website includes information about those exempt, updated guidance on face shields and those who may use them (including teachers, ECLC, TK-2nd grade students, hearing impaired and those exempt), information about masks and implementation on IUSD campuses.
Battle of the Schools
Ask your friends and family to deposit their gently used clothes and shoes in the Tree Machine in front of our school (by the bike racks) so that Cypress Village can win up to $2,000! We appreciate your support! The Battle of the Schools ends October 14th.

Social Emotional Resources
We acknowledge the increased need for Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) as we plan for a return to school. Our teachers have been provided resources, lesson plans, and guidelines to specifically address the urgent SEL needs facing our students, namely, building a sense of safety through relationships, routines, and expectations, as well as SEL lessons that foster self-awareness and coping skills. We have built a “toolkit” for parents as well! Please see the full toolkit resource here: Parent Toolkit The 3 R's Return to School, or view some key resources below.
- Help your child cope with changes resulting from COVID-19
- Address any symptoms of separation anxiety
- Notice symptoms of stress/anxiety/behavioral changes

Hot Weather Guidelines
As you know during the first few months of the school year, it is not uncommon for us to experience hot weather. Occasionally, the temperatures may reach into the 90s or even around 100. In response, Cypress Village adheres to the County of Orange and Orange County Department of Education's Hot Weather Guidelines for Schools to determine student activities on those days. The activity heat index takes into account the temperature and humidity present to make recommendations for rest, activity time, and fluid intake.
Based on those activity heat index guidelines, as recommended, we will suspend physical education, conduct physical education during a time in the day when it is cooler, and have the children remain in their classrooms during snack recess and lunch recess. It is important to note, shade is available to students on our playground and activity time during recess and lunch is generally limited to about 20-25 minutes.
Parents can assist us in helping ensure that their children remain healthy and safe on hot days, by following the suggestions below.
-
Have your child wear light weight, comfortable and "breathable" clothing.
-
Hydration is vital! Send your child to school with at least one water bottle. They can refill them throughout the day.
-
Provide your child a hat to wear when outside.
