Class Placement 2022-23: A Note from Mrs. Lambert
Dear Cypress Village Community,

In preparation for the next school year, Cypress Village recognizes that parents have valuable information which could assist in the class placement of their child.

Examples of this may be:
• an unsatisfactory experience between an older child and a teacher
• neighborhood problems that may necessitate the separation of two children
• description of the traits and characteristics present in a teacher that your child responds to best

We also recognize that parents sometimes have preferences for teachers and may request a specific teacher for their child. Although your request is reviewed, little consideration is given to specific teacher requests. We cannot place children in classes based only on parent preferences or a teacher’s reputation in the community.  Please keep in mind that staffing changes often occur from year to year. This includes teachers that may not return to teach at Cypress Village, new and additional teachers that may be added, and teachers changing grade levels. We group children for instructional purposes, and placing them in classes for other factors would defeat those purposes. Although not guaranteed, requests that include multiple class placement choices have a better chance of being accommodated. Parent requests asking for their child to not be placed in a class that includes a specific population of students, a certain classroom composition, or a combination classroom are given no consideration.

In summary, most parents do not request specific teachers for their child or have any additional information to give us, and leave it to us to place their child in an appropriate classroom.  However, if you have a specific request or pertinent information related to the classroom placement of your child for next school year, please CLICK HERE to submit your request before May 13th, 2022.

GATE and APAAS Informational Meeting
Cypress Village will be holding an informational meeting for parents who would like information regarding our school’s “Gifted and Talented Education” program on Thursday, April 21st from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM in the Multi-Purpose Room. Some of our GATE teachers and principal will provide an overview of Cypress Village’s GATE program and IUSD’s APAAS program, and although anyone is welcome to attend, this meeting is specifically designed for parents of third, fourth, and fifth-grade students who have applied for APAAS or have an interest in their child's possible future participation in the GATE program at Cypress Village. The presentation is not designed for parents of a student currently participating in Cypress Village’s GATE program. The focus of our information meeting will not be on the criteria needed for GATE program admittance. For criteria information, it is recommended that you read the information on this link. If you  are unable to attend this meeting and have general questions about Cypress Village's GATE program or questions regarding the district's APAAS program, please contact your child’s teacher or visit our school’s website.

PATS Supports Grants for Irvine Schools
You may have recently seen Irvine Public Schools Foundation’s announcement of their 2022 Innovative Grants Program awards. Cypress Village has been fortunate to receive IPSF grants in the past, and we look forward to the opportunity to apply again in the future. These grants have the power to bring amazing ideas to life and continue to keep our school and district on the leading edge of innovative teaching and learning! The Innovative Grants Program is an easy way to show our teachers, nurses, and staff how much we appreciate all that they do! For a small donation, IPSF provides the teachers and staff of your choice a certificate of appreciation, which includes a personal message from your family.

  • To support the PATS campaign and make a donation in honor of a teacher or staff member, please visit https://ipsf.net/pats.

Virtual Mental Health Presentation
IUSD is hosting a Virtual Mental Health Presentation on April 27, 2022 from 6-7pm on How to Navigate COVID-19 Social Anxiety. During COVID-19, children and adolescents experienced a surprising shift in their social relationships. For some youth, adjustment to extended periods of isolation led to self-doubt and a decreased sense of belonging. This presentation will discuss the signs and symptoms of social isolation in children and adolescents. The impact of social isolation on interpersonal relationships and school avoidance will also be explored. Targeted audience: Pre-K to 12th grade parents.
