Kindergarten Enrollment FAQs

How do I start the enrollment process and what does it entail?

The process starts at the IUSD website, where you can also find detailed information. You can access the link here https://iusd.org/about/iusd-enrollment/enroll-irvine-usd. Make sure you are enrolling your student for the 21-22 school year. Once You have completed your online registration and gathered all of your documents, you will complete enrollment by appointment here at Cypress Village Elementary. You can make an appointment to bring in all of your documents here (link coming soon).

I have a current cypress village tk student (either in IVA or in person at portola springs), do i need to go through the enrollment process?

No, but please look out for the Intent to Return Survey which will be coming out mid-late March. You will just need to confirm your student will be attending Cypress Village 21-22.

What if I just moved in and do not have my first utility bills?

There are other acceptable documents. Most of our families will need to choose from Option 1, which can be found here https://iusd.org/about/iusd-enrollment/enrollment-documents Additionally, some of the utility companies will provide a “Start of Service” letter which states your name, address and the date service was started (cannot be a future date). We can accept this document temporarily until you receive your first bill, which you will need to submit once received.

What are the immunization requirements?

IUSD complies with all state immunization requirements and immunizations will need to be complete. Find the health requirements for school entry here https://iusd.org/sites/default/files/documents/2020-21_imm_req_for_school_entry.pdf (make sure link updates to 21-22) Please ensure there is a date, dose and Dr. stamp for each immunization and that student’s legal first and last name as well as birth date is on the immunization record. These requirements are all listed on the attached link.

Do I need to provide original documents?

Yes, we will need the original documentation. If the original documents are unavailable, we will need certified copies.

How do I enroll if my student is returning to the district? Will I need to complete the online enrollment?

No, you will not need to complete the online enrollment, but you will need to do all of the other steps. You can make an appointment to bring in all of your documents here (link coming soon).

How do I enroll if my student is coming from ECLC?

If you are coming from ECLC, you will not need to complete the online enrollment, but you will need to complete all of the other steps. Please see ECLC specific information here (link coming soon) You can make an appointment to bring in all of your documents here (link coming soon).

Can I choose what grade to put my student in?

No, we place students by chronological age, unless they have records from another U.S. public school placing them in a different grade level. More information can be found here https://iusd.org/sites/default/files/documents/grade_level_placement_for_all_2020-21.pdf

Will I be able to choose AM or PM?

During the registration process, you will be given an opportunity to request your preferred time. In doing so, it is important that you explain your reason for your request. Although it is our goal to accommodate your request, there is no guarantee that your child will be assigned to a class that meets at the time of your choosing.  Every year, there are more requests for the morning kindergarten session than we have space to accommodate. As a result, there will be students who will be assigned to a PM class whose parents requested an AM class. With that in mind, it is imperative that you develop a plan now that will work with both the AM and PM schedules. Rainbow Rising, our on site child care, does have child care available for the mornings and they will drop off PM Kinder students at their class each day. In most years we are able to accommodate all those who request a PM time. Kindergarten families will be notified by email if your child has been placed in a class that meets on the AM or PM schedule about a week before school begins. Specific class assignments and the name of your child’s teacher will be communicated the day before school begins through the parent portal. In the event that this schedule changes due to the pandemic as it did for this year, you will be notified.

Can I enroll in a school outside of my attendance area?

You will need to enroll at your designated school of attendance. However, reflecting the belief that parents should have a choice of schools, the Irvine Unified School District established an Intradistrict/School Choice Policy. This policy provides the opportunity for parents who reside in the district to enroll their student in any school within the district on a space available basis. The deadline for submitting a request is noon on the fourth Friday in February. Based on forms submitted by the deadline, principals draw names and establish waiting lists (by grade level at the elementary level).  Requests received after the deadline are added to the school's waiting list on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can find the link for Cypress Village’s 21-22 Interdistrict Transfer/School Choice here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeBdGWgNaVW7fvoheSf0qU5txCdDILIcc9mJBYHKgh663Q26g/viewform Please note that Cypress Village is a historically impacted school in most grade levels, so School Choice acceptance probability is low.

I do not currently reside in IUSD, but will be moving in over the summer. Can I enroll now?

No, you must be living in our attendance area in order to complete enrollment. If you move in over the summer while the school is closed, you will be able to complete enrollment through One Stop/Summer Enrollment. The link will be up here https://iusd.org/about/iusd-enrollment/enroll-irvine-usd when available. There will also be a link on our webpage at cypressvillage.iusd.org

What if I move out of the Cypress Village attendance area over the summer?

If you are still within IUSD, you will need to submit a new Residence Verification document, along with 2 proofs of residence through One Stop/Summer Enrollment. The link will be up here https://iusd.org/about/iusd-enrollment/enroll-irvine-usd when available. There will also be a link on our webpage at cypressvillage.iusd.org. If you have moved out of IUSD, please email that information to CYEnroll@iusd.org. Be sure to include your student’s first name, last name, grade level and reason for withdrawal. If available, please also provide the name and location of the new school of enrollment.

Will my student need to take a language proficiency test?

That depends on your home language survey. If it is determined your student needs a language test, you will be notified and scheduled for an initial ELPAC assessment. More information can be found here https://iusd.org/about/departments/education-services/academics/language-development-programs/language-proficiency
