Arrival & Dismissal Key Points
We love seeing all our wonderful families before and after school. Safety is also our number one priority. Please see below for when parents are allowed on campus.
Morning Arrival:
Please remember that parents and students are only allowed on campus 15 minutes before your child starts school.
- Upper Grade- 8:00am start time
- Primary- 8:15am start time
Afternoon Dismissal:
In the afternoon, parents are allowed on campus only at the time of dismissal. Students are learning all the way up to dismissal time, so seeing parents standing near the classroom door or peering into the classroom windows can be distracting. We appreciate you waiting until dismissal to walk to the classroom. Our front courtyard is a wonderful place to wait until students are dismissed.
- Primary-2:15pm
- Upper Grade- 2:37pm
- Minimum Day-1:20pm
With primary dismissal, please make sure that you are not staying on campus. Our upper graders are still in session and will be using our outdoor learning and physical education areas. You are welcome to visit any one of our beautiful nearby city parks in the meantime. CLICK HERE to view a map of where to stand while you are waiting to pick up your student. The nearby parks are circled in blue and our campus boundary lines are in pink.
Lastly, as a reminder, dogs are not allowed on campus. We love our furry friends and you are welcome to wait with your pet outside of our school boundaries. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Announcements From Your CV PE Coaches
Hello Cypress Village Families! Our PE staff is super excited for the 2022 - 2023 school year. We wanted to share a few helpful reminders for your students, to help them have a safe and comfortable experience in PE class.
- What day does my child have PE?
- Tuesday: 5th and 6th grade
- Wednesday: Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade
- Thursday: Pre-K, 4th grade
- We encourage all students to wear a hat and sunscreen!
- We encourage all students to bring a water bottle.
- Please write your student's name, grade level, and their teacher's name on the bottle.
- No glass bottles! Plastic and metal only.
- The weather can vary a lot! Often it is chilly in the morning and hot by noon, so it's wise to dress in layers. If your child has a sweatshirt on for the morning, be sure they have another layer underneath in case it heats up. Also, light colors such as white help to reflect heat and keep your child cool! Long sleeve sun shirts work great.
- Please send your child in appropriate closed-toe athletic shoes and socks. We recommend shoes with laces, Velcro, or some way of tightening the shoe. Please do not send your child in sandals, Ugg boots (or similar), soccer cleats, or expensive shoes that cannot get dirty.
- If it is too hot outside, we will utilize our Multi-Purpose Room.
We look forward to a fun and successful year!
-Coaches Jen, Eden, Joseph, Travis, and Greg
Hot Weather Guidelines
As you know during the first few months of the school year, it is not uncommon for us to experience hot weather. Occasionally, the temperatures may reach into the 90s or even around 100. In response, Cypress Village adheres to the County of Orange and Orange County Department of Education's Hot Weather Guidelines for Schools to determine student activities on those days. The activity heat index takes into account the temperature and humidity present to make recommendations for rest, activity time, and fluid intake. Based on those activity heat index guidelines, as recommended, we will suspend physical education, conduct physical education during a time in the day when it is cooler, and have the children remain in their classrooms during snack recess and lunch recess. It is important to note, shade is available to students on our playground, and activity time during recess and lunch is generally limited to about 20-25 minutes. Parents can assist us in helping ensure that their children remain healthy and safe on hot days, by following the suggestions below:
- Have your child wear lightweight, comfortable, and "breathable" clothing.
- Hydration is vital! Send your child to school with at least one water bottle. They can refill them throughout the day.
- Provide your child with a hat to wear when outside.
Lunch & Other Items - Drop-Off Location
If your child forgets their lunch or another important item, you may drop them off at the labeled table near the MPR. Please email your child’s teacher when you drop it off. It also helps to share with your child that if they forget their lunch, to check the table. Teachers are not always able to check their email throughout the day. When in doubt, check the table for the forgotten item. Thank you!
Drop-off and Dismissal
We encourage families to walk to school when possible and utilize the street parking around the school. We are lucky to have many entrance points on our campus. As we did last year, students will be dismissed from their classroom door. Please park in an area that is closest to your child’s classroom. You do not need to drop-off or pick up your child from the front parking lots. In fact, we encourage you to find an area around the school that works for you and your child since the parking lots can become congested during arrival and dismissal. We have opened both parking lots for student drop-off and pick-up. For drop-off and walk-to-school procedures, CLICK HERE.
Supply Lists
CLICK HERE to view grade level supply lists and to access voluntary monetary donation links on SchoolBucks. Links are listed within each grade level list. Cypress Village Elementary School will provide all of the necessary supplies for your child to have a quality educational experience. You may, however, choose to assist the school by purchasing supplies for your student. The supplies on the grade level supply lists are not required but are optional, or additional supplies you may wish to include for your child. Each list includes a link for a voluntary monetary donation. These donations help us offset the cost of the items listed at the bottom of the list. We greatly appreciate your support!
All students will need a backpack (no wheels in kindergarten) and a lunchbox if they are bringing lunch/snack to school. We encourage you to pack food items in tightly sealed containers to avoid any issues. Thank you to our Cypress Village community for generously supporting our school program and assisting our students and teachers.
School Communication - Follow Us on Instagram and Facebook
Every Friday you will receive this email, which we call the “Cypress Village Forecast.” It is also recommended that you follow our Cypress Village Elementary’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. In order for us to effectively communicate with you, it is imperative that we have an accurate email address on file. Changes in your email may be made through the Parent Portal located at www.myiusd.org or by contacting the front office.
IUSD Parent Center
Please visit our IUSD Parent Center for events, workshops, support for families, and other resources. The Parent Center is located at 2015 Roosevelt (Building #2), Irvine, CA. It is open 8 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and until 7:00 pm every third Thursday of each month.
Health Guidelines for School Attendance
Please take a moment to read through the Health Guidelines for School Attendance. It is essential that a parent calls the attendance line at 949-936-8901 to notify the school that their child is staying home due to illness. We appreciate your support in keeping our students and families healthy.
On-Campus Volunteers
As we begin the 2022-23 school year, we are excited to have our volunteers back on a more regular basis. In a change from last year, we will no longer require volunteers to upload their vaccination status into our Raptor System.
If you plan on volunteering and working with students, we do ask that you complete the volunteer application below and also ask to take an antigen test and confirm that you are negative for COVID-19 so we can support a healthy school environment. However, this is not required and we are not collecting the results. In addition, masking is also recommended for all our volunteers working within the school.
Nutrition Services Information
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced that they will reimburse school districts for free meals to all students, regardless of income in the upcoming school year. As a result, meals for IUSD students during the 2022-23 school year will be free. Pre-K and Kindergarten will also be included in our breakfast/snack program.
If you wish for your child to be able to purchase additional food items from the cafeteria, you can make lunch money deposits through the front office into your child’s account, please drop off the check or money in the office before 9:30 a.m. You may also make deposits through the online system, Titan.
To ensure that your child receives the additional benefits for which your family may qualify, please submit a Free or Reduced-Price Meal Application for this school year as soon as possible.
- Parents who are certain that their students do not qualify are not required to submit an application. All IUSD students will still receive free meals this year.
- Parents who have already received a letter notifying them that their students are qualified for free or reduced-price meals do not need an application.
- Click here for Meal Application
- It is highly encouraged to complete this form as it provides additional benefits to you and the district such as grants, program funding, athletic waivers, and textbooks assistance, among others.
Operation School Bell Program
Assistance League® of Irvine is starting our annual Operation School Bell Program, which provides new school clothes, shoes, and backpacks to income-qualified IUSD families.
