What is Science Olympiad?

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a national, non-profit organization on a mission to inspire students to pursue STEM pathways. It is open to Cypress Village students in 4th-6th grade. If selected to the team via tryouts, students will train and practice for competitions. The competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 16 team events in each division (Division A is Elementary School; Division B is middle school; Division C is high school). Each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation and teamwork. Teamwork is a required skill in most scientific careers today, and Science Olympiad encourages group learning by designing events that forge alliances and friendships.

If your student is interested in trying out for the team, stop by the Science Olympiad booth at the Cypress Village Back-To-School Night on September 5th where you can meet our coaches, Alyssa and Zephyr, and hear more about this great opportunity!
